Cannabis tax receipts in Santa Barbara County were down again in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024-25, in part impacted by a continuing black market for the now-legal product.

The county’s cannabis program manager, Carmela Beck, reported to the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that the county collected $1.1 million in cannabis-related taxes in the final quarter, down from the same period the previous year.

Collections for the fiscal year were $5 million, down from the projected $5.4 million in anticipated revenues.

The report continued the downward trend from the collections high of $15.6 million in 2020-21, but was only slightly lower than more recent years including $5.8 million in each 2022-23 and 2023-24.
