SANTA FE, N.M. —

It's been about two months since Urban Alchemy , an organization managing a homeless shelter in Santa Fe, took over the facility formerly known as Pete's Place .

Mike Anderer, the chief administrative officer, emphasized the importance of stabilization as the first step in their efforts.

"We serve individuals who are in the middle of lots of different traumas and experiences and tragedies in their life," Anderer said. "And really insecurities of really not having housing and everything else that gets complicated by that."

The organization is working with the city under a $1.5 million one-year contract. The city of Santa Fe released new data, which shows total calls fell by 72%, emergency incidents dropped by over 75%, and the area around the shelter saw a 21% decre
