BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A former Indiana University student media director is speaking publicly for the first time after being fired earlier this week , claiming the university told him print editions of the student-produced newspaper should be themed and not include regular news.

Jim Rodenbush, who led IU’s student media operations for nearly eight years, received a standing ovation Friday at a national media conference in Washington, D.C., where he discussed his dismissal and concerns over press freedom on campus.

"Once it became about content that's in that's from my perspective, when it crossed the line and to asking me to commit censorship of the paper," Rodenbush told 13News.
