In a defensive, slightly dour game, the Portland Winterhawks prevail 3-1 over the Red Deer Rebels, on Reed Brown’s tiebreaking goal with 28 seconds left in the game.
Portland had only 4 shots in the 3rd period, but turned them into 2 goals--Brown’s tiebreaker and Ryan Miller’s empty-netter to set the final score.
The win gives the Winterhawks a winning 3-2 record on their 5-game trip to Alberta. They have one road game left to complete their 11 games on the road to start the season, before their October 25 home opener at renovated Memorial Coliseum.
