At just 19, Merewether local Layla Schillert is already making her international debut as the lead role in an acrobatic, musical production.
But, even from a young age, she always had a passion for the stage.
“I’ve grown up surrounded by music,” Layla told the Newcastle Weekly .
“My whole family sings, so music has always been such a huge part of my life.”
When she was in primary school, Layla began taking acting and singing classes at Hunter Drama, where she quickly developed a knack for performing.
“The musical theatre community in Newcastle is great,” she said.
“There is so much happening, so many spectacular shows being put on there.
“So, I feel blessed to have come from such a supportive and encouraging environment that really uplifted me to pursue theatre and performing.”
