The 27-year-old man indicted for coercing his friend to overdose on a lethal amount of methamphetamine at gunpoint appeared in court Friday for a formal filing of charges.

According to court documents, Joshua Mayfield, has been charged with seven felonies: class-four manslaughter; two counts of second-degree assault; two counts of class-five menacing; class-three criminal extortion; and distribution of a schedule two controlled substance.

Despite protest from Mayfield’s attorney and a community member who spoke to the suspect’s “respectful” character, presiding Judge Craig Henderson ruled that the $40,000 cash-only bond would remain.
