New revelations have emerged surrounding the Melbourne CBD stabbing that left sushi chef Wan Lai hospitalised, with police confirming the alleged attacker, Lauren Darul, was already being sought before the shocking daylight attack.

Darul aged 32 was reportedly on bail at the time of the stabbing on Little Bourke Street that left 36-year-old Wan Lai with a punctured lung.

Police confirmed Darul had missed a mandatory mental health appointment and was absent from a state-run homeless shelter in the days leading up to the attack on October 2.

The terrifying incident, captured on CCTV, and released by 7News showed Lai walking to work before being approached and stabbed in the chest by a woman who fled the scene still clutching the knife.
