BATTLE GROUND — Even with 180 yards worth of penalties, the Camas Papermakers still found a way to win the 4A Greater St. Helens League football opener.

Quarterback Tyson Ruggiero rushed 16 times for 156 yards and a touchdown and threw two TD passes as Camas held off the Battle Ground Tigers 22-7 on Friday at District Stadium.

Flags were flying all game from the very first play from scrimmage. In all, 27 penalties were assessed for 250 yards with Camas receiving the bulk of the yellow laundry.

“We were shooting ourselves in the foot with all the penalties,” Ruggiero said. “We just had to move on to the next play. When we did that, we started coming together as a team and started to figure out things more.”
