AVON, Ohio — The top-ranked Avon Eagles turned a competitive rivalry game into a blowout victory, defeating Avon Lake 43-12 to clinch at least a share of their 10th straight Southwestern Conference championship.

What appeared to be a tight contest through much of the first half transformed into a running-clock rout after a crucial defensive play.

With Avon holding a 21-9 lead late in the second quarter, Eagles defensive back Caden Clapham intercepted Avon Lake quarterback Dawson TenBrink on the goal line with seconds remaining in the half, preventing the Shoremen from cutting the deficit to five points.
