It seems that practically every week, some new cafe or coffee shop is opening in Canterbury , and it’s starting to feel a little crowded. Between Starbucks, Costa, two Caffè Neros which are less than five minutes apart, Bakers + Baristas, too many bubble tea shops to name , plus a variety of independents, the city certainly isn't lacking for tea and coffee.

So, when two new cafes opened within weeks of each other this summer - and also directly opposite one another - my excitement wasn’t exactly high. Chiya has taken over the long-vacant former Boho Café Bar in the high street, while Far East Asian-inspired chain Mowchi has moved into what was previously the Po’ Boys sandwich shop .
