CHARLESTON — In the heart of Marion Square, on the same flagpole that was dedicated ten years ago to honor all South Carolinians who served in the U.S. military, a new plaque cast in bronze now gleams, bearing the names of 39 Medal of Honor recipients.

Displayed publicly for the first time Oct. 17, the plaque honors recipients who called South Carolina home, either by birth or by choice. It was dedicated by the Board of Field Officers of the Fourth Brigade in cooperation with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society that is headquartered at Patriots Point.

Each name represents a story of extraordinary courage and sacrifice.
