These are exciting times for transportation in Duluth.

In August, the Duluth City Council unanimously voted to establish a transportation commission, which my Vibrant Streets Duluth organization believes will be an important piece in making our streets safer for all modes of transportation. Sixth Avenue East is reopening with a safer neighborhood-oriented design. West Superior Street will be transformed into a “complete street.” And good work is happening to complete missing segments of the Cross City Trail and Campus Connector.

Here’s another idea. You may have heard that Helsinki, Finland, just went a full year without a single traffic fatality. Sadly, we can’t say the same for much-smaller Duluth. What was Helsinki’s secret? It listed many reasons, but at the top of the list was red
