PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria County farmers are expected to clear a couple hurdles in the form of drought conditions and tariffs to have a normal harvest this fall.

Farm Bureau Manager Charlie Hensley says farmers are in the range of 250 bushels of corn per acre, and around 880 bushels of soybeans, which is normal numbers.

Farmers could have a financial strain this year with dropping corn prices and tariff-driven trade issues with soybeans. Hensley tells 25 News that farmers could take bridge payments to offset losses.

“A bridge payment is a makeup for possible losses during the crop year,” Hensley said. “While that might be good in the short term, what we really want to look for is long-term market stability.”
