A historic Clydebuilt ship has been deliberately sunk after being towed out to sea off the coast of Hawaii as maritime conservation groups have expressed outrage.
Since the 1960s, the Falls of Clyde, built in 1878, has been stationed as a a museum ship in Honolulu, reports the BBC . However, it has since fallen into a state of disrepair .
On Wednesday, the ship was towed into deep water about 25 miles offshore on Wednesday and then scuttled, according to the Honolulu Harbour Board.
The vessel's name, wheel and bell were retained along with other artefacts to be put on display.
