CROSS PLAINS, Wis. (WMTV) -A veteran in the Madison area is getting a new roof for free.
Gerald Boehnen of Cross Plains was awarded the prize as the winner of the sixth annual Roofing A Vet campaign.
Boehnen served in the Korean War in 1951 and 1952.
His son nominated him for the award. Boehnen said it was quite a surprise.
“I was shocked. I couldn’t believe it to be truthful because I never won nothing in my life,” said Boehnen.
Heins Contracting is the company awarding the new roof. They said the campaign is just one small way for them to give back to the men and women who served the United States.
