Australian football manager Ange Postecoglou has been sacked by English Premier League side Nottingham Forest after eight games in charge.

Nottingham Forest sacked the winless manager 18 minutes after their 3-0 defeat by Chelsea on Saturday local time.

The defeat left the club 17th in the standings and on the brink of slipping into the relegation zone.

He was sacked after 39 days in charge which is the second shortest stint as a Premier League manager ever.

"Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect," the club said in a statement.

"The Club will make no further comment at this time."
