CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead and another critically injured following a shooting early Saturday morning in the parking lot of a Chesterfield County bar, authorities said.

The Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting at the Sandtrap Bar and Grill in the Cheraw area. Preliminary investigation found two people were shooting at each other after an earlier altercation that night, the sheriff's office said.

One person was fatally shot, while the other was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was notified and investigators are following active leads.

Authorities said there is no known ongoing threat to the community.

Sheriff Cambo Streater extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
