Delhi witnessed a massive traffic surge on Saturday as thousands of shoppers and commuters flooded the roads on Dhanteras, leading to widespread congestion across the national capital and its adjoining NCR cities. Major intersections and arterial routes linking Delhi to Noida and Gurugram were choked for hours, with vehicles crawling at a snail’s pace.

Key areas, including Kashmere Gate, Karol Bagh and vast stretches of Ring Road, saw long queues of vehicles as residents stepped out for festive shopping ahead of Diwali.

The popular markets of Chandni Chowk and Lajpat Nagar reported heavy footfall, prompting the Delhi Traffic Police to issue an advisory restricting movement in and around the area from 2 pm to 10 pm between October 18 and 21.
