A man died in hospital and one person is in custody following an assault late Friday night in East Gwillimbury.

York Regional Police said officers responded at 11:25 p.m. to an assault in progress in the Queensville Sideroad and Yonge St. area, according to social media updates shared early Saturday morning.

Cops found a man with critical injuries and he was transported to hospital, police said. A short time later, police said the victim died of his injuries .

“This appears to be an isolated incident and no additional suspects are being sought,” police wrote on social platform X.

Police said the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

There is no word yet if any charges will be laid.
