EUGENE, OREGON -
Protesters across Oregon are rallying for immigrant rights, trans healthcare, and privacy from expanded surveillance, with more than 50 protests expected statewide. In Eugene, organizers emphasize a commitment to nonviolent demonstrations.
"We definitely have a commitment to organizing nonviolently, both as a strategy and as an ethic. So we put out a strong message that we organize nonviolently, and expect anyone who attends to act nonviolently as well," said Stan Taylor, the leader of Indivisible Eugene-Springfield chapter.
Eugene police are coordinating with protest organizers to ensure a peaceful event, with no planned traffic disruptions.
"Obtaining a permit allows for the police department to better facilitate a safe event for the protesters and uninvolved public.
