NEW BRUNSWICK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police are now looking at the conditions inside a Rutgers University frat house where a student was critically injured .

It appears the student may have come into contact with exposed wires while in the basement at Alpha Sigma Phi.

A friend in the room told investigators he was shocked, though not as badly.

Members of the frat say the injury was not related to hazing, though social media posts indicate otherwise.

Police believe the room was dark at the time.

Alpha Sigma Phi released a statement saying,

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the young man in the hospital and his family. While we know he has been hospitalized, no other information has been shared with us.
