SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For many, LeRoid David ’s rise in the world of sports art might seem like a dream - but for him, it’s the fulfillment of a passion ignited long ago in childhood.

Growing up in San Francisco, LeRoid wasn’t an athlete but instead a true fan behind his pen and paper.

“I was that last kid you’d pick on your team,” David said.

But what he lacked on the field, he made up for with a sketchpad. From drawing his favorite athletes, such as Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, he imagined a day when he could create art for the teams he loved.

That day came in ways even bigger than he could have envisioned. LeRoid’s first professional sports design assignment was a tribute posted for San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy during his final season.
