BANGOR, Maine — The Cathy Gero Bangor Region YMCA broke ground Friday morning on Main Street.
The facility will be 82,000 square feet near Davis Court and Talbot Park.
Supporters, stakeholders, and local state leaders gathered for the ceremony, discussing the impact the Y has had on the local community.
"It is literally one of the greatest feelings next to birthing my children," Diane Dickerson, CEO of Bangor Region YMCA, told NEWS CENTER Maine. "This is long overdue, long awaited, but it is just worth all the effort."
It's set to include two pools, a gym, indoor track, and fitness center. For the first time in Bangor Region YMCA history, it will also offer infant care starting at six months.
