Bloomington, Ind. — If Jonathan Smith was coaching for his job Saturday at Memorial Stadium, then the game Michigan State put together makes what comes next a little interesting.

Smith and the Spartans came into Bloomington as nearly four-touchdown underdogs, facing a juggernaut in No. 3 Indiana immediately after three straight Big Ten losses put Smith on the hot seat. In a 38-13 loss, Michigan State's defense allowed scores on its first five drives as a lack of a run game hindered its offense.
