SILSBEE, Texas — The Silsbee Fire Department and Silsbee Independent School District joined forces Saturday morning for a large-scale bus rollover training exercise at Silsbee Middle School.
District officials said the simulation began around 10 a.m., when a school bus was rolled onto a car to mimic a crash scenario. Students participated by sitting inside the bus and the car as firefighters practiced emergency rescue procedures.
Firefighters from Silsbee and neighboring departments used specialized tools to cut into the bus and extract the “victims,” gaining real-world experience in how to respond to a serious school transportation accident.
Harold Flatt, a firefighter and school bus driver, said the exercise helps first responders prepare for real emergencies.
“I hope we learn how to
