In last year's Franciscan Bowl at Ascension St. Vincent Field in Indianapolis, Saint Francis rallied from a 21-point deficit to knock off Marian, which ultimately served as the deciding factor for which team from the MSFA Midwest League would advance to the NAIA national playoffs.

Returning to Indianapolis for this year's Franciscan Bowl, the No. 11 Knights atoned for those perceived wrongs, forcing six USF turnovers in shutting out the No. 24 Cougars 49-0, handing USF its most lopsided loss in program history.

“We couldn’t get in front of it,” USF head coach Adam Sherman said. “It was quicksand. The more you try to do, the further in you go.”
