Carroll easily cleared the first two hurdles on the path to defending its Class 4A volleyball state title on Saturday, beating Northrop in the North Side Sectional semifinals and Snider in the evening final, both by 3-0 scores.

The No. 1 Chargers (33-0) have now won 17 straight sectional titles and 26 all-time.

Senior Bailey Sinish led the Chargers with nine kills against Northrop, Sophia Gisslen had 25 assists and Lauren Peters had three aces as Carroll won 25-9, 25-3, 25-7. The Bruins end the season with a 10-21 record.

In the evening finale, Sinish had 13 kills and five aces, Gisslen had 38 assists and Addi Shippy had three blocks as the Chargers beat the Panthers (16-19) 25-11, 25-12, 25-8.

Snider beat North Side (0-18) 3-0 to advance to the final.
