Queensland Health has launched an urgent investigation amid fears food from a takeaway store in Logan may be contaminated with rat poison, as five people were hospitalised within the last week.

Patients presented themselves to Logan and Princess Alexandra hospitals after they consumed the suspected poisonous meals.

Chief Health Officer Dr Catherine McDougall advised staff in an internal safety alert of the possible poisonings, Nine News reported.

Clinicians were warned to be on alert for patients presenting with unexplained bleeding symptoms and coagulopathy – where blood fails to clot properly.

The suspected contamination in the rat poison is Brodifacoum, an anticoagulant most commonly found in rodent baits.
