BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Southern University implemented enhanced security measures for homecoming weekend, drawing mixed reactions from attendees as the campus balanced safety concerns with traditional celebrations.
The university added license plate readers, surveillance drones, and blue light emergency devices across campus. The blue light systems allow users to contact campus police with the press of a button.
University officials said the security upgrades were implemented out of an abundance of caution following recent threats targeted at multiple HBCUs across the country.
