LEXINGTON — Numerous — in some circles, what must feel like countless — times over the past few seasons, the Kentucky football defense has had stout performances fall by the wayside.
Blame a revolving door of offensive coordinators and starting quarterbacks, who all too often couldn't manufacture enough points to ensure those defensive masterpieces weren't for naught.
Against a ranked Texas squad Saturday night at Kroger Field , for a fleeting moment, it appeared UK defense finally could rest easy. It had had its way with the UT offense and first-year starting signal caller Arch Manning for the majority of the contest.
But in overtime, UK had first-and-goal at Texas' 3-yard line. The Wildcats couldn't punch it in even after having third- and fourth-down tries a yard away.
