Lansing — Democrats who control the Michigan Senate say they want to stabilize the state's seesawing marijuana industry, proposing plans to cap the number of retail licenses that can be given out and halt approvals for new large grow operations.
The lawmakers detailed their ideas during a committee hearing in Lansing on Wednesday, eight days after Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed into law a 24% wholesale tax on marijuana , which was designed to generate more money for road projects, as a part of a budget compromise with House Republicans.
