BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A homicide investigation is underway after a person who was shot Friday, Oct. 17 died from their injuries Saturday, Oct. 18.

Birmingham Police say they responded to a person shot call in the 3500 block of 27th Avenue North at 10:01 a.m. Friday.

When officers arrived, they found 73-year-old Alfred Stephens lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue took Stephens to UAB Hospital where he died from his injuries Saturday evening.

Police say early investigations indicate that a verbal altercation took place between Stephens and a suspect before they shot Stephens and left the scene.

At this time, there is no one in custody.
