NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) - A homecoming game filled with ebbs and flows that varied wildly from quarter to quarter saw FCS No. 9 Illinois State fall at Hancock Stadium on Saturday to No. 25 Youngstown State.
The Redbirds were down 12-0 in the early second quarter. By half, they led 14-12. At the end of the third, they pushed the deficit to two scores, 29-18. But three late touchdowns from the Penguins had them at the losing end 40-35.
YSU quarterback Beau Brengard finished with 528 all-purpose yards, 328 through the air and another 200 on the ground. Both were career highs for him.
Redbird quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse hurled five touchdown passes on 206 yards. He was also ISU's leading rusher with 84 additional yards on the ground.
