As the festival of Diwali lights up homes across India, health experts are warning parents to stay alert to the hidden health hazards the festivities can bring, especially for children with asthma, eczema, or allergies. In an exclusive conversation with India Today, Dr. Indu Khosla, Senior Consultant, Paediatric Pulmonology at Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital, Mumbai, explained how common festive elements like smoke, dust, and food additives can trigger serious allergic reactions and how simple precautions can keep kids safe.
“Diwali is a time of happiness and excitement, but for children with allergies, it can quickly become distressing,” Dr. Khosla said. “Firework smoke, cleaning dust, and certain festive foods can act as strong triggers for asthma or eczema flare-ups.”
