Unionized hospital workers are scheduled to wrap up their five-day strike at Kaiser Permanente facilities across Hawaii at 7 a.m. today.

More than 2,000 health care workers represented by UNITE HERE Local 5 and Hawaii Nurses and Healthcare Professionals walked off the job along with tens of thousands of Kaiser workers in California, Oregon and Washington state.

Kaiser and the Alliance of Health Care Unions, which includes 23 local unions, have jointly agreed to resume bargaining on Oct. 22-23.

“We remain committed to reaching an agreement that provides strong wage increases and enhances high-value medical plans and retiree benefits, while balancing our obligation to deliver high-quality care that remains affordable,” said Kaiser in a statement on Friday.
