The heist took place on Sunday and lasted just seven minutes. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez described it as a “major robbery.” The Louvre closed for the day while authorities investigate. No injuries were reported. French daily Le Parisien reported that the criminals entered via the Seine-facing facade, using a freight elevator to reach the Apollo Gallery. They reportedly stole nine pieces from the jewelry collection of Napoleon and the Empress. One stolen jewel was later found outside the museum, believed to be Empress Eugénie’s crown.
