The horrific shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis in August highlighted the violence from external threats. But what is often overlooked is the actual violence happening every day within Iowa schools.

My wife, Aspen Lohman, knows this violence all too well.

This current school year would have been Aspen’s 29th teaching first grade at Coralville Central Elementary School in the Iowa City Community School District. Her mom was a teacher. She grew up wanting to be a teacher. She was put on this earth to teach kids and she’s very good at it.
