Tel Aviv, Oct 19: Tensions flared once again in southern Gaza as Israel accused Hamas of attacking its forces in Rafah, marking the first major test of the fragile US-brokered ceasefire that came into effect just nine days ago.

According to Israeli military officials, Hamas militants allegedly targeted Israeli troops with rocket-propelled grenades and sniper fire in Rafah, prompting Israel to respond with a series of airstrikes in the area. The Israeli side also reported casualties among its forces following the assault.
