CROSSLAKE — Short-term rental properties in Crosslake connected to city sewer may be required to install commercial water meters in 2026.

Public Works Director Patrick Wehner spoke to the Crosslake City Council about the proposed change at its regular meeting Monday, Oct. 13.

“On the bigger VRBOs, they’re going to have a higher water usage. So then their bill is going to go up accordingly for that,” Wehner said.

City Clerk Char Nelson said that while the cost of the meters themselves could be included in existing rental fees, property owners would have to pay to have the meters installed.

Crosslake Mayor Jackson Purfeerst said he didn’t want to take any action on the proposed change until the council sees estimates for property owners’ installation costs.
