A few months ago, Dominick Serrano didn’t know where he’d be for his sixth and final collegiate wrestling season.
A coaching change left the University of Northern Colorado senior unsure about his future.
“It was tough at first, just the unknowing,” Serrano said. “Just, ‘What do I do?’ ”
Longtime University of Northern Colorado coach Troy Nickerson left the Bears program in June for the head coaching job at Army West Point. UNC had not yet hired Teyon Ware, a standout collegiate wrestler at Oklahoma, as Nickerson’s replacement.
Nickerson brought Serrano, a Windsor High School graduate, back home to wrestle for the Bears a couple of years ago when Serrano decided to transfer from Nebraska.
