COLUMBIA, S.C. — It turned out to be a beautiful October day across the Midlands on Saturday. The Columbia Metropolitan Airport reached 82 degrees, while the city itself topped out at 81.
It stayed completely dry, continuing a stretch of pleasant but rain-free weather that much of South Carolina has seen lately. While it was an ideal day to be outdoors, lawns and gardens could still use a good soaking.
For reference, the record high for this date is 90 degrees, while the record low of 33 was set just three years ago in 2022. That same day in 1968 also brought record rainfall to the area. Morning lows dropped to 55 in Sumter, 52 in Orangeburg, and into the upper 50s around Columbia.
