KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two men were hospitalized and then taken into custody Saturday evening after a reported shooting and battery in Shawnee, Kansas.

According to the Shawnee Police Department, at about 5 p.m., officers were called to the area of West 65th Street and Ballentine Street on reports of an "armed disturbance."

When officers arrived, they confirmed there had been shots fired.

Two men were found at the scene. One was taken to a hospital for gunshot wounds, and the other was taken for injuries related to a battery.

Both men are in police custody as the investigation continues, police said.
