A series of “No Kings” rallies throughout Michigan on Saturday brought thousands of demonstrators to the streets and spurred a war of words between local officials in the country’s two major political parties.

Nearly 100 No Kings rallies were planned throughout the state Saturday, including in Metro Detroit, Lansing and the Upper Peninsula.

The cross-country rally initially organized in opposition to President Donald Trump’s birthday parade in June returned Saturday in response to moves including sending immigration agents into cities, pushing for the redrawing of congressional maps to favor Republicans and “gutting health care,” according to the rally website.
