TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — An "innocent bystander" is dead after an early morning shooting in Terre Haute .

The Terre Haute Police Department said officers responded to the 600 block of Wabash Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19 in reference to reports of shots fired with at least one victim.

When officers arrived on scene, they said they found an "innocent bystander" shot, however, they later died from their injuries.

Police said preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect "brandished a weapon for an unknown reason and discharged it, striking both himself and an innocent bystander."

Police said the suspect was taken into custody. Police said they also recovered a gun on scene.
