There are huge delays on the M62 this afternoon following a major crash on the M62 near Greater Manchester.

All traffic was initially held following the 'multi-vehicle' collision which saw police and paramedics race to the scene on the eastbound carriageway near junction 22 for Denshaw.

National Highways said it is working to reopen some lanes but drivers have been told to expect delays, with multiple lanes remaining closed off due to the incident.

A number of vehicles were said to have been involved, causing a large fuel spillage on the carriageway and delays of at least 45 minutes.

Traffic was later released and filtered into the third lane. Motorway cameras showed congestion building due to the multiple other lane closures.
