Recently, my wife and I took a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland, on our way to Finland. We had three days to immerse ourselves in Scottish culture, history and geography. As we flew into the airport, we enjoyed a panoramic view of the city. Two striking landmark features stood out – Arthur’s Seat and Edinburgh Castle. The ancient road between them is called The Royal Mile .
Arthur’s Seat : This huge slab of elevated rock rises from the centre of rugged Holyrood (Holy Cross) Park next to Holyrood Palace , the royal residence when a king or queen visits. Queen Elizabeth II often visited this Scottish palace and lay in state there before her funeral in England. In earlier times, it was home to various kings and queens, including Mary, Queen of Scots (aka “Bloody Mary”).
