Two persons suffered burn injuries after a gas lighter reportedly exploded inside a shop near Bilal Masjid in the Qamarwari area of Srinagar on Sunday, officials said.

As per officials, the blast occurred when a box of gas lighters suddenly went off inside the shop, leaving both shopkeepers injured. The duo was immediately shifted to SMHS Hospital for treatment.

The injured have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Khanday (45), son of Abdul Ahad Khanday, and Parvaiz Bashir (25), son of Bashir Ahmad Khanday, both residents of Qamarwari, Srinagar.

Hospital authorities said the condition of both injured persons is stable.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
