A cash-strapped Midland council has been accused of squandering taxpayers' money on a bus lane "in the middle of the road" which brings other traffic to a standstill.
The "bonkers" road markings have appeared along Castle Foregate in historic Shrewsbury, leaving locals scratching their heads.
The bus stop emerged this week on a stretch of road that has been reduced to a single lane of traffic. What used to be a second lane has been scrapped and turned into a brief cycle-lane - with a pavement squeezed in between.

It means that whenever a bus stops, no other vehicles can get past along one of the town's main arterial routes.
