North Allegheny, Mars and Quaker Valley enter the WPIAL girls volleyball playoffs as defending champions.

But only one returns as a top seed.

North Allegheny is the top seed in Class 4A for the ninth consecutive year. The Tigers (12-2) have been the most dominant team in the state — in any classification — over the past eight years.

Mars claimed its first WPIAL title with a 3-1 win against Beaver in the WPIAL Class 3A final last year. The Planets (14-4) enter the tournament as a No. 3 seed. Oakland Catholic (17-1) is the Class 3A favorite. Beaver (17-1) is seeded No. 2.

Quaker Valley won its first WPIAL title with its 3-0 win against Hopewell in the Class 2A final. The Quakers (8-10) are long shots to defend their title after finishing fourth in Section 1. They are seeded No. 15 in the
