BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) - Friends of the Quabbin announced that stabilization work has begun on the historic Keystone Bridge at Gate 30 of the Quabbin Reservoir, which has been showing signs of significant collapse.
Built in 1866 by Adolphus Porter, the Keystone Bridge is a stone structure that has been restricted from public access since 2023 due to the collapse of its spandrel wall, posing a significant safety risk.
"This effort is only possible because of the generosity of our members and supporters," said Friends of the Quabbin spokesperson Paul Godfrey.
Curtis Construction Services of Brookfield is contracted to carry out the project's stabilization work, with project oversight provided by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation's (DCR) Division of Water Suppl
